Caningeraba State School offers an extensive leadership program for our senior students.  We embrace the philosophy that each and every senior student is a leader and we foster leadership skills in all of our senior students, by providing a range of programs and opportunities to develop these skills. We align our leadership process in with our HASS unit “Participating in Australian Communities" and base the criteria for our leadership around the “Nine Values for Australian Schooling". These are Caningeraba State School's Values and are taught explicitly through this HASS unit.

To obtain a school leader position students need to demonstrate the following values on a consistent basis:

  • Care and Compassion
  • Doing your Best
  • Fair Go
  • Freedom
  • Honesty and Trustworthiness
  • Integrity
  • Respect
  • Responsibility
  • Understanding, Tolerance and Inclusion

We believe all Year 5 and Year 6 students are leaders, additionally we have “badged" leaders and this includes

  • 2 School Captains
  • 2 Vice Captains
  • 1 Student Council President
  • 5 Student Council Members
  • 2 House Captains for each house
  • 2 Music Captains
  • 2 French Captains
  • 2 First Nations Leaders

Our “badged" Student Leaders run our Student Council, which implements major initiatives, such as the many student council fundraisers for the community. The Student Leaders compere whole school events, talk on daily assemblies, assist with sports carnivals and musical concerts, invigorate our AST program and do soccer umpiring duties for younger year levels.

Students are offered an array of opportunities to demonstrate leadership in their final year at Caningeraba, whether a “badged" leader or one of our senior students embodying our core values.
