TRIXIE, THE TRICKY LITTLE LIBRARY VISITOR
We had quite the surprise when we opened the library last Monday. A letter from Santa awaited, heralding the arrival of Trixie, the cheeky elf who had been forgetting her thumbs-up behaviour in Santa's Workshop. Santa asked that the lovely students of Caningeraba show Trixie how to behave so she could return to the North Pole ready to make him proud. Trixie's visit was definitely no walk in the park! But who doesn't love a little library chaos?
On Tuesday Trixie took her rugby league fandom way too far! Dressed head-to-toe in her tiny league uniform, Trixie dove into the library's Rugby League magazines like she was charging for the winning try - leaving them in a wild jumble and even tearing a few pages mid-scrum! Clearly she got a little carried away… lucky the students were on hand to help remind Trixie that an elf might play rough on the field, but we treat our library books like true MVPs.

On Wednesday or “Wet"nesday as it turned out to be, Trixie the library elf really outdid herself! We caught her perched on a Lego ladder she'd built all by herself, dressed head-to-toe like a wee firefighter. She'd even balanced on top of the library archway, fire hose in hand, poised to give unsuspecting students a surprise soaking as they walked underneath. Very cheeky indeed! Honestly—doesn't Trixie know the rule about no food or water in the library?
Thursday saw Trixie pull a vanishing act worthy of a paperback cliffhanger. After two days of spirited antics, the little wanderer slipped between the shelves and had gone completely M.I.A., leaving only a faint sparkle of “I'm up to something" in the air. We spotted a few decoy elves lurking around the library space, but not a single genuine Trixie among them. Luckily, we had some truly eagle-eyed students who spotted her wearing full camo hiding amongst the foliage of our magical library tree.

The students were patient and understanding with Trixie, and by the end of the week we found her looking very relaxed, settled on a cushion, surrounded by books… reading quietly with her friends. The students had great fun looking for Trixie each day and suffice to say Caningeraba kids are on the top of Santa's Nice List this year.
THANK YOU, LOVELY LIBRARY MONITORS…
A HUGE thank you to our amazing Library Monitors who have shown leadership and community spirit by helping each day at second break. Our monitors reshelve books, tidy shelving and help model appropriate library behaviour to our younger students during a very busy playtime. They have all supported our Library team beautifully this year and are to be congratulated on their service. THANK YOU - Blaire, Elyse, Tahlia, Piper, Malah, and Alexa.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB – THANK YOU
Thank you to those wonderful parents and guardians who participated in Book Club this year. And thank you, Mrs Green, for being captain of the Book Club ship this year! Caningeraba State School shone as one of the greatest supporters of Scholastic Book Club statewide in 2025. As a result of your generous support, this year we have been able to purchase almost $2000 worth of new books for our library with rewards from the program.
With every new book purchased, students are not just growing their own personal libraries. They're also helping to expand the range of new titles in our school library catalogue. Many of the books we have added through Scholastic Book Club rewards have come directly from student suggestions, turning each purchase into a win for everyone.
IT'S A WRAP ON LIBRARY BORROWING!
We have now finished student borrowing for the year and all loans should be returned to the library this week. If your family is heading off early on holiday then please ensure your child's books have been returned before you go. It has been wonderful, this year, to see full class borrowing right across all year levels. That means our Caningeraba students are developing the habit of regular reading at home, which is certainly a great practice to foster.
Be sure to keep reading over the school holidays. Sharing books with your children is a wonderful means of connecting with literature in a meaningful way. It also makes for cherished memories. During the summer break, The Gold Coast City Council libraries are wonderful places to spend time. With a loan limit of 50 items, you can stock up before Christmas and maintain a nightly routine of bedtime stories with your budding readers. Here is the 'What's On' link for GCCC Libraries where you will find some great activities to participate in over the summer holidays.

Wishing you all a safe and happy summer holiday. We have so many exciting events ahead in 2026, so rest-up and keep reading!
Yours in literature,
Mrs Grant
