Unique to Caningeraba, Global Citizenship is a subject designed to inspire and equip students in Years 1 – 4 to make the world a better place through the application of our 21st Century Learning Skills: Contribute, Challenge, Critique, Create, Communicate, and Collaborate. These skills are fundamental to our school vision:
'We are committed to educating happy, healthy, confident 21st century learners.'
Through Global Citizenship, students explore global issues, embrace diverse perspectives, learn how to communicate with impact and contribute to a more inclusive, sustainable world.
Global Citizenship also incorporates opportunities for students to apply STEM concepts (Science, Technologies, Engineering and Mathematics). Learning through STEM enables students to develop solutions to complex problems and provides them with some of the capabilities that will help them succeed in a world of technological change.
Students participate in one lesson each week with our Global Citizenship teacher, who guides the students through a process of inquiry to answer a big question or solve a problem. The following organising ideas create the contexts for learning for all year levels:
Term 1: Community
Term 2: Sustainability
Term 3: Social Justice
Term 4: Action in the World
Global Citizenship reflects our ongoing commitment prepare our students as confident and caring change agents, empowered to positively shape an exciting, changing world.
