Oceanic and South Coast Sport Information
Oceanic, South Coast and Queensland Sport Information
Please be advised that times/dates/venues were correct at the time of publication of the calendar but that the calendar is designed in the preceeding year and that in the past few years sport has been impacted by weather events. The calendar is subject to change by Districts due to numerous circumstances. For the most up to date information regarding District events, always consult your school sports co-ordinator or District.
Families planning holidays during school terms need to be aware that this changes can occur at anytime and that "Every Day Counts" for attendance is important policy of Education Queensland.
Oceanic District
Caningeraba State School is part of the Oceanic district for sport. Oceanic is responsible for the organisation and implementation of the representative sport program in the district.
The information below, as well the hyperlinks, are our way of communicating with you re this pathway. A calendar of trials can be found in the Oceanic Section of the School Sport South Coast region's website. Parents/ Caregivers are encouraged to look at this calendar but realise that it is static, has been constructed in the previous year and that at times changes occur(due to weather and other events).

Oceanic swimming, athletics and cross country.
The pathway to an Oceanic event for swimming, cross country or athletics is determined through school events eg. swimming carnival, cross country day and athletic carnival. There are qualifying guidelines determined by the Oceanic District, including places, times and restrictions on numbers in attendance. The information for students to attend an Oceanic event will occur as timely as possible after the school event. Paperwork and permissions for the Oceanic events need to be returned to the school post haste.
Other representative sport
For other sports such as touch football, netball, cricket, etc students have to be nominated by the Physical Education Staff to attend Oceanic trials.
On 11:20 assemblies the upcoming Oceanic trials are communicated to the students. Your child needs to let the Physical Education Staff know if they are interested in trialling for a particular sport, remembering that this is district level sport and your child should be demonstrating very competent skills and game play in the nominated sport.
You can also encourage your child to let Physical Education Staff know they are interested in trialling by consulting the calendar above for timelines of when the trials are occurring.
If there are many students wanting to trial for an Oceanic team a selection process will take place at Caningeraba State school to select students who will go to the Oceanic trial.
Students need to listen out for the announcements on the 11:20 assemblies of where and when the school trials will take place to determine who will go to trial at Oceanic. This pre trial needs to occur as there is often a numbers' limit of students able to trial from each school.
Students will bring home a letter containing the information for the trial and a link to a permission and details booklet that needs to be completed. This booklet needs to be completed and then brought back to Caningeraba to confirm the details are correct. This permission and details booklet is then taken to the Oceanic Trial.
Oceanic Trial information will be forwarded to you by the Physical Education staff.
PLEASE NOTE that sometimes these dates, times and venues change so please confirm with Mr O'Toole hotoo1@eq.edu.au or Mr Goonan mgoon4@eq.edu.au
