Information Athletics Day

Our athletics days provide maximum participation. Caningeraba commits resourcing and host the events over 5 days due to the large number of students we have at our school and in each year level. We have designed the program for each year level so that students in years 4-6 spend one day committed to their athletic events, and students in Prep-Year 3 spend 2 hours completing their activities.  Our program is designed for maximum participation with students competing in all athletic events.

Year 4-6

All students in the athletics carnivals compete in their house groups for high jump, long jump, shot put and the 800m. We race the heats of the 100m and 200m altogether at the beginning of the day and have the finals after second break.  Small ribbons are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the house group rotations.  House results are tallied, and we award the overall places for these events.  Students finishing top 3 overall receive a larger ribbon and are allocated points that go towards the winning house order and for deciding Year Level Champion. This is very motivational for students; they can receive ribbons within their house, and it also allows our more athletic students to still be recognised as the overall place getter for the year level.

Students are then identified if they qualify to make the Caningeraba team for the next level of competition which is the Oceanic District Athletics. There are qualifying times associated with some events.

1500 and Discus – students are invited by the Physical Education staff to qualify for these events for the Oceanic District Athletics. This qualification time will be announced at our 11:20 daily assemblies and in our communication channels of newsletter, Facebook and website news item. Please note due to the specialisation of these events, these are for students who demonstrate athletic competence in these events or attend little athletics.

Year 2-3

Students in the athletics carnivals compete in their house groups, in the 80m, 200m, high jump and long jump.  They also have a greater chance of obtaining a ribbon.  This is a small sized ribbon that indicates their place within their house group. As is the same with the 4-6 carnivals, house results are tallied, and we award the overall places for these events.  Students finishing top 3 overall receive a larger ribbon and are allocated points that go towards the winning house order and for deciding Year Level Champion.

Prep-Year 1

The emphasis on our Prep and Year 1 carnivals is to showcase some of the activities students have been completing during their PE lessons.  It is a combination of athletic events and sporting events.  There are a couple of races within the gender groups for the 80m and then a 'final' where the ribbons are awarded for 1st, 2nd 3rd.
