Students between the ages of 10 and 12 have the opportunity to trial for representative sport teams if they are extremely competent in their chosen sport. This does not include trialling for Oceanic swimming, cross-country or athletics. These trials take place during our school carnivals.
At the start of each school year a district sport calendar is published to notify the dates in which trials will take place. Sports usually include hockey, basketball, baseball, golf, touch footy, rugby league, Australian rules football, rugby union, football, softball, cricket and aquathon (a combination of running and swimming).
If a student wishes to trial, they need to consult their school PE teacher to determine if they are competent enough to go to the trial. We are not allowed to nominate more than 3 students for any chosen district sports trial.
If a student is successful in gaining one of those 3 spots, a trial note is sent home with information regarding the trial. This note includes a link to the South Coast School Sport website that guides parents in filling in the required forms that must be completed prior to the trial.
Once the South Coast forms are filled in, they must be printed and signed by either the school Principal or their delegate (Deputy Principal, PE Teacher) to sign the acknowledgement. These forms are then handed in to the District Sport Team Manager by the student trialling on the day of the trial.
Some trials will take place over two sessions. If a student is chosen in the Oceanic district team, they will then participate at the South Coast Regional trial. If they perform well, they may be chosen in the South Coast regional team that will train and play at the Queensland State Titles.
This is different to interschool sport which is played in school time on Fridays.
Trial dates can also change at short notice because of wet weather.
Please see attachment of trial calendar for your reference. Remember we are asking only students who are extremely competent at their chosen sport/s to nominate to trial as we can only nominate 3 students per sport and there are a lot of competing schools in our district.
I hope this helps to understand the pathway for representative school sport.
