On Tuesday 20th May, 2024, two Caningeraba teams competed in the da Vinci Decathlon held at Brisbane Boys College. The da Vinci Decathlon is an academic competition designed to challenge and stimulate the minds of school students. Students compete in teams of eight across 10 disciplines: art and poetry, engineering, mathematics, code breaking, science, English, ideation, creative producers, cartography and legacy.
Our year 5 team consisted of Soda, Nova, Elsie, Pippa, Caiden, Skye, Nixon and Zac and our year 6 team comprised of Sinley, Blaire, Finn, Leo, Xavi, Finn, Van and Murphy. The students prepared for a number of weeks prior to the competition during sessions at school and completed additional practice and research at home.
The students applied themselves to the challenge with a commendable level of enthusiasm, dedication and teamwork and should be proud of their efforts in all areas. What was most pleasing was seeing how they conducted themselves with confidence and composure in a challenging and competitive environment. At all times they demonstrated maturity, respect and sportsmanship in how they interacted with one another, teachers, judges, students from other schools and with our wonderful bus driver. They wore their Caningeraba uniforms with pride amongst a sea of private school ties and blazars and left a positive lasting impression on all they crossed paths with. They also showed great resilience and endurance as we left on the bus in the dark at 6am and returned in the dark just prior to 6pm. A special thank you to the parents of our da Vinci team for supporting their children in the lead up to the competition and also for ensuring they were organised and prepared for the day. It was a wonderful opportunity that the students will remember for a long time to come. We are so grateful that our school is committed to supporting our students to engage in these experiences to broaden their horizons and reach their potential.
