Our Student Council and Year 6 students sold commemoration materials to our community on the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Thank you to our community for supporting us to commemorate the Anzac Day through purchasing these materials, or making a donation. This money provides funding to the Anzac Day Commemoration Committee, an organisation that supports the Anzac Day Commemorations. Thank you also to our gardening community, the sprigs of rosemary from the garden were welcomed.

We also had our very special Commemoration Assembly at the school on Thursday. It was great to see so many parents and caregivers in the audience. Our student leaders were excellent in their facilitation of this very solemn occasion. Thank you, Van, Alice, Finaly and Finn.  It was made all the more special by having two very special guests in attendance, John Leathley, Commanding Officer / Chief Instructor Land Warfare Centre, Senior ADF Officer Kokoda Barracks and father to Hannah and Jack and Todd Sheaves,  Board member of Burleigh RSL Sub Branch, former Lieutenant in the Navy for 15 years and father to Coen and Claudia. Mr Sheaves spoke to our students re the importance of being little “Anzacs" and doing courageous acts daily in their lives. Lt Colonel Sheathy laid a wreath with our school captains and vice captains. The Performance Choir sang beautifully the tune “Can you Hear the Children Marching".

This year in our ceremony we also had the inaugural presentation of a Burleigh Heads RSL Sub-Branch Bursary. Our very deserving recipient is Murphy W. This bursary is awarded to a student who demonstrates leadership skills, diligence integrity and commitment to their school work and school activities and communication skills in all aspects of school life. Murphy certainly embodies these attributes at Caningeraba State School.

All of our students in the audience were exceptionally respectful during the assembly.

Well, you can't control the weather and that certainly had an impact on the traditional march in Burleigh. Thank you to the families who came and went, those who came and stayed and to all of you for being there in spirit. It was very wet! Caningeraba State School was still able to lay the wreath and the books, along with other organisations. The mini commemoration, including the young bugle player with the Last Post and The Rouse, reminds us all of the true meaning of Lest We Forget.

Thank you, community, for your support of this very special day.
