Recently, our school had a special visit from Rachel Parker (Global Play Lab) and Dr Karena Menzie-Ballantyne (Senior Lecturer in Education, Central Queensland University) who travelled to Caningeraba to see our 21st Century Learning and Global Citizenship initiatives, firsthand.

Rachel, from Melbourne, and Karena, from Bundaberg, have researched 21st Century Learning and Global Citizenship Education, working with educational systems both nationally and internationally, for a very long time. They are highly recognised researchers and leaders in the field of Global Citizenship Education.

They co-authored the  ACER-APCEIU Global Citizenship Education Monitoring Toolkit for Teachers, Schools and System Leaders (Australian Council of Education Research- Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding under the auspices of UNESCO) and last year, collaborated with Caningeraba school leaders and teachers in an international research study to share our experiences and practice with other schools across varied educational contexts nationally.

Caningeraba was later published as one of only three Australian case studies in a follow up research publication. We were the only school in Queensland and the only state school involved in this research, the other two case studies being private schools in Victoria.

It has been such a privilege to partner with Rachel and Karena as experts in the field and to showcase Caningeraba during their recent visit. Global Citizenship at Caningeraba continues to reflect our ongoing commitment to preparing our students as confident and caring change agents, and further, support educational research and other schools with their own Global Citizenship Education initiatives.
