On Wednesday 20 May 2026, 30 students from Years 2–6 proudly represented Caningeraba State School at the Interschool Chess Tournament held at St Kevin's Catholic College, which hosted over 300 chess enthusiasts from local primary schools for this event. We entered 8 teams who competed across 5 divisions, playing 7 rounds of chess, with students accumulating both individual and team points throughout the day.
Our players demonstrated outstanding resilience and courage, with several students competing in their very first tournament and others challenging themselves by competing in higher divisions than in previous events. Students also displayed excellent sportsmanship and team spirit, with experienced players supporting our newer competitors to help them navigate the tournament environment.
Every student experienced success and contributed positively to the Caningeraba team effort. Congratulations to the following students who were awarded Merit Ribbons during the presentation ceremony:
- A Division: Louie
- B Division: Zac
- C Division: Sol
- D Division: Cooper
- E Division: Oscar
It is wonderful to see the Caningeraba chess culture continue to grow through both the Interschool tournaments, and our weekly chess coaching sessions held each Wednesday, where students are able to develop new strategies, refine their skills and connect with like-minded peers.
