What an adventure Term 3 has been in our library… literally!
The CBCA Book Week theme, Book an Adventure, was a crowd favourite this year, with our inaugural whole school parade capping off an amazing 2025 Book Week celebration.
The rain kindly held off just long enough for the Preps to Year 3s to strut their literary stuff. Parents and friends clapped, cheered and snapped some photos. Then the heavens opened for Years 4 to 6 — but a little drizzle never dampens a good story! Our older students took it all in stride, slightly soggy but grinning ear to ear.
Celebrations continued around the school throughout Book Week. Our tuckshop ladies created their very own Wonderland, complete with Queen of Hearts biscuits and Mad Hatter Tea Party cupcakes which were a huge hit for all our hungry kiddies.
Mrs Dimmock re-imagined the Prep playground inspired by this year's award-winning picture book of the year, The Truck Cat. Our Preppies had so much fun exploring and counting all the hidden Tinka the Cat characters from the book.
Lovely members of our Caningeraba staff generously loaned the library suitcases so special, they practically deserve their own passports. Rumour has it, these family heirlooms could be clocking in at over 100 years old a piece —older than the internet, and possibly wiser too!
Along with some marvellous hat boxes, they have been the stars of our 'Book an Adventure' Book Week display, nestled mysteriously under the archway in our library. The kids are buzzing with theories about what secrets they hold and what adventures they have seen. Miss Trina and I may have casually mentioned that our school bags used to look like that… so yes, we're officially vintage. Possibly antique. Definitely collectible.
The walls of our library are adorned with hot air balloons, thoughtfully decorated by our students. Every class had the opportunity to contribute to our library display so this year, CBCA Book Week has certainly been a 'choose your own adventure'.
Book Week Costume Competition
To celebrate Book Week Dress Up Day the library held a book giveaway. Each class held a vote on their best dressed classmates, selecting the three favourite costumes. Those three students from each class were able to come to the library and choose a new book to add to their classroom bookshelf. That's three new books for each class!
Book Week Year 4 Library Visit
Our Year 4 students were lucky enough to visit the Burleigh Waters branch of Gold Coast City Council Libraries as a special Book Week event. They made quite a sight crossing Christine Avenue dressed as wonderful characters from some of their favourite books.

Today we walked to the local library. The kind library staff welcomed us inside then they read us a book called Unreal. They let us pick which one was real and unreal. Then they told us we could get our own library card for free! They gave us our own library stickers. Then showed us an audio clip of chapter 4, Fluff's Big Mess. They also said we can go there any time we want!

We were all dressed as book characters. Some people had different costumes from Book Week. The librarians were dressed as Gilbert and Fluff from the book called Fluff and they read the first part of the book. Then we heard the author read it on the tv! It was nice to get out in the sunshine and do something a bit different.

Yesterday all of year 4 went to the wonderful Burleigh Waters Library for a short visit. The nice staff welcomed us as they started teaching us how to join the library. We all listened to a chapter of a funny book named Fluff Mess Up, it was an audio book. Everyone loved it! We next read this cool book called Unreal and we got cool stickers every time we chose the fake animal correctly! We had the best time but we had to go back to school!
Gold Coast Libraries are great places to visit and offer an abundance of free school holiday activities. They also offer story time sessions for younger children. Last week, our Preps celebrated Book Week with the theme “Book and Adventure", enjoying a range of exciting activities that sparked plenty of excitement and enthusiasm for reading.
On Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, we welcomed local Early Childhood Education and Care centres with their 2026 Preps for Reading on Rugs. When the wet weather arrived, it felt like we should have renamed it Reading in Rowboats! Our Prep teachers shared a story, before the children paired up with their new kindy friends to explore books together. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a fruit break.
On Tuesday, our friends from Goodstart Burleigh Waters were lucky enough to head outdoors for a play. The highlight was our We're Going on a Bear Hunt inspired obstacle course, which proved a huge hit with both the Preps and their kindy visitors. By Thursday and Friday, when our friends from Little Scholars Burleigh and Burleigh Waters joined us, the rain kept us indoors — but the fun and enthusiasm never wavered.
Throughout the week, the Preps also enjoyed dressing up for the Book Week Parade and going on their own hunt — spotting and counting all the hidden Tinka the Cat characters from the award-winning story The Truck Cat around the Prep area.

Reading is such an important skill for our Preps, and it was wonderful to see them so engaged, animated and excited in every book-related activity. Just as importantly, these visits gave our future Preps the chance to begin establishing their relationships at Caningeraba —with our current Preps and the staff who will soon be part of their journey. What a joyful way to celebrate Book Week!
