Last week, our Preps celebrated Book Week with the theme “Book and Adventure", enjoying a range of exciting activities that sparked plenty of excitement and enthusiasm for reading.
On Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, we welcomed local Early Childhood Education and Care centres with their 2026 Preps for Reading on Rugs. When the wet weather arrived, it felt like we should have renamed it Reading in Rowboats! Our Prep teachers shared a story, before the children paired up with their new kindy friends to explore books together. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a fruit break.
On Tuesday, our friends from Goodstart Burleigh Waters were lucky enough to head outdoors for a play. The highlight was our We're Going on a Bear Hunt inspired obstacle course, which proved a huge hit with both the Preps and their kindy visitors. By Thursday and Friday, when our friends from Little Scholars Burleigh and Burleigh Waters joined us, the rain kept us indoors — but the fun and enthusiasm never wavered.
Throughout the week, the Preps also enjoyed dressing up for the Book Week Parade and going on their own hunt — spotting and counting all the hidden Tinka the Cat characters from the award-winning story The Truck Cat around the Prep area.

Reading is such an important skill for our Preps, and it was wonderful to see them so engaged, animated and excited in every book-related activity. Just as importantly, these visits gave our future Preps the chance to begin establishing their relationships at Caningeraba —with our current Preps and the staff who will soon be part of their journey. What a joyful way to celebrate Book Week!
